Project Description
BeamForge Studio is a sophisticated, browser-integrated structural engineering platform designed to provide a high-fidelity environment for analyzing and visualizing the behavior of beams under various loading conditions. Serving as an essential bridge between manual calculations and heavy-duty finite element analysis (FEA) software, the application offers students, architects, and civil engineers a streamlined interface for rapid design iteration. By consolidating complex structural data into a single, responsive dashboard, the app allows users to immediately observe how changes in geometry, material properties, or load positions affect a beam’s internal forces and physical deformation. Its clean architecture and real-time processing make it an ideal tool for both classroom learning and preliminary site-office calculations.
Working Principle
The core working principle of the application is rooted in the fundamental laws of Statics and the Euler-Bernoulli Beam Theory. The calculation engine begins by establishing static equilibrium, solving for vertical reaction forces and internal moments by ensuring the sum of all forces and moments across the system equals zero. Once reactions are established, the app generates the Shear Force Diagram (SFD) by summing the loads acting to the left of every discrete cross-section. The Bending Moment Diagram (BMD) is then derived through the numerical integration of the shear force curve, representing the internal rotational effect at any point. Finally, the physical Deflection Curve (Elastic Curve) is rendered by performing a double integration of the moment diagram divided by the beam’s flexural rigidity ($EI$), with boundary conditions applied to ensure zero displacement at the supports.
Advantages
One of the primary advantages of this application is its ability to provide instantaneous feedback, removing the wait time typically associated with structural simulation software. This real-time responsiveness allows for a deep, intuitive understanding of the mathematical relationship between loading, internal shear, and curvature. Furthermore, the inclusion of Serviceability and Strength Checks—specifically comparing maximum bending stress against material yield and checking deflection against the L/360 code limit—provides an automated safety margin that traditional manual methods lack. Because it is built using lightweight HTML5 and JavaScript, BeamForge Studio remains entirely portable, offering a professional-grade engineering workspace that is accessible on any device without the need for complex installations.
